VP for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy highlights improved infrastructure and expanded global participation in the 2025 Technology Olympiad.
Iran’s Technology Olympiad Strengthened with Upgraded Infrastructure and International Scope

Tehran, Iran – Hussein Afshin, Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy, announced on October 30 at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Technology Olympiad in Pardis Technology Park that significant technical infrastructure upgrades and better facilities contributed to a more successful second edition, which drew over 12,000 volunteer participants from Iran and abroad.
Afshin emphasized that the Olympiad fosters creativity through experience, trials, and learning from setbacks, aiming to teach effective teamwork and interdisciplinary innovation to serve society.
Recalling the first edition held domestically in 2024 with over 6,300 Iranian participants across six fields, Afshin noted that teamwork and cross-disciplinary collaboration are key to innovation success. The second edition expanded to an international level, featuring competitions in six areas: programming, artificial intelligence, internet of things, cybersecurity, combat robotics, and drones. Three disciplines included international matches, attracting participants from 65 countries, with 15 nations — including Iran — reaching the finals.
Highlighting the importance of a global dimension, Afshin stressed that major challenges like climate change, data security, and health require international collaboration, and such events help benchmark abilities worldwide and identify strengths and weaknesses.
Reflecting on the improvements in this year’s event, he said: “After the first Olympiad, we recognized the need for stronger support and better infrastructure for teams. This year, thanks to enhanced technical capabilities, conditions were significantly better.”
Afshin concluded that planning for next year’s Olympiad has already begun, with expectations of increased international team participation and a continued balance of competitive and educational focus. He thanked organizers, judges, and all participants, remarking that the ultimate goal is to encourage learning, cooperation, and creativity in shaping the future of technology.
