Steel warriors clash in three leagues at IIID in the second Technology Olympiad, with 43 finalist teams vying for the combat robot championship.
Fire and Steel on the Ring – Countdown to the Robot Champions at IIID
At the Iran International Innovation District (IIID), the second Technology Olympiad will feature a spectacular showdown between mechanical giants in three leagues — lightweight, heavyweight, and student — as 43 finalist teams from an initial 274 entrants battle for the combat robot crown.
Mohammadreza Fallah, secretary of the combat robot section, said that 274 competitors forming 83 teams initially registered. Following intense preliminary rounds, 43 teams qualified for the finals across the three leagues: 16 lightweight robots weighing up to 30 kg, 4 heavyweight robots up to 60 kg, and 23 student-built robots weighing under 30 kg.
Fallah noted a significant improvement in performance compared to the previous edition, with close contests in the preliminary stage expected to continue into the finals.
He emphasized that this is not just a technical contest but also a festival of talent and innovation, where every team has a unique story and creative concept. The robots are the result of months of design, building, and repeated testing, with the competition arena marking the peak of their creative journey.
Regarding judging, Fallah explained that preliminary evaluations were based on technical reports, while in the finals, each match is decided by two judges and one head referee, using a double-elimination format.
The combat robot section remains one of the most popular and thrilling events of the Technology Olympiad, attracting wide attention from competitors and spectators alike at IIID.
