At IIID, day one of the 2025 Technology Olympiad’s drone competitions showcased smart flight, simulation, and FPV piloting, blending AI, engineering, and human skill.
Drones Dance Under the Sky – Day One Concludes at IIID
At the Iran International Innovation District (IIID), day one of the 2025 Technology Olympiad’s drone contests turned the skies into a high-tech arena, where human pilots, artificial intelligence, and precision engineering merged in synchronized aerial displays. Competitions covered smart demonstration flights, flight algorithm simulation, and FPV piloting.
In the smart flight algorithm simulation, teams Barsavash, Phoenix, Nova, and Controletic competed on criteria including mathematical model accuracy, adaptive control systems, and environmental responsiveness. Barsavash claimed the title with a reinforcement learning-based adaptive control algorithm.
The competition atmosphere mirrored a human–machine symbiosis, as teams, seated at control monitors, adjusted drone flight paths using sensor data and advanced simulation engines reproducing wind shifts, pressure changes, and gyroscopic drift to deliver near-real flight conditions.
In the FPV (First Person View) piloting category, out of teams including Phoenix, Sorna, Horizon UAS, Skyline, Aerobics, Ouj 110, Deuterium, Nahid, Shahin, Simorgh, Shahid Fakhrizadeh, Noavarin, and Quaternion, only five managed to compete due to technical issues. Organizers will reassess these teams tomorrow morning at IIID’s test centers to enable their participation.
In the smart demonstration flights, among three competing teams, Fanavaran Parvaz took first place with group coordination maneuvers enabled by a central control and motion prediction algorithm.
