On October 5, 2026, the Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation announced the shortlist for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Medal, with final winners to be honored in December 2026.

The final meeting of the scientific working group for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Medal, previously known as the Young Scientist Medal, was held at the foundation's headquarters. According to the foundation's communications office, the initial nomination pool exceeded 100,000 candidates across the Islamic world.

Key statistics and eligibility criteria highlighted include:

  • Scientific Fields: The shortlist includes 4 candidates in Engineering, 4 in Mathematics, 4 in Computer Science, 8 in Life and Medical Sciences, 2 in Chemistry, and 2 in Physics. Additionally, 14 candidates in the specialized field of Nanotechnology met the threshold for the initial list.
  • Initial Pool Breakdown: The initial list comprised 55,878 in Life/Medical Sciences, 26,377 in Engineering, 7,897 in Chemistry, 5,589 in Computer Science, 4,675 in Physics, and 1,965 in Mathematics.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must be under 40 years of age (born in 1987 or later for the 2026 cycle) and reside in an Islamic country. Nominations must be submitted by third-party scientific entities, such as universities, research centers, or technology parks.
  • Award Details: Beyond the medal and certificate of appreciation, each winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize. The award ceremony may be hosted in Iran or another Islamic country to leverage regional scientific capacities.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Medal was established through the endowment of cash prizes by past Mustafa Prize (PBUH) laureates, including Prof. Ugur Sahin, Prof. Omid Farokhzad, and Dr. Wahab Mirrakani, to encourage and honor the impactful achievements of young scientists in the Islamic world.
