Managing director of Cord Blood Stem Cells Bank Morteza Zarrabi said in order to help the treatment cycle of patients, 5 or 6 products of fetal wastage have been prepared and will be used in the next few months in the Pardis Technology Park so that these appendages are not thrown away as waste.

Opening a maternity products refinery is one of the measures taken by Royan Institute, so that after the birth, in addition to storing umbilical cord blood, the other appendages that come out of the uterus are not discarded as biological waste.

He added that fetal membranes can be used to treat diabetic foot ulcers, corneal surgery, and burns.

Each cord blood sample can be stored for 25 years, he said adding those who can use umbilical cord blood in public banks who have genetic matching, otherwise, transplant is not possible.

He went on to say that umbilical cord blood knowledge has been indigenized in Iran, neighboring countries are asking for cord blood banks, and we are signing a memorandum of understanding with them.

Currently, 900 clinical trial researches are underway for type 1 diabetes and cerebral palsy patients.

70% of patients who need umbilical cord blood stem cells can not get them, and with the existence of a stem cell bank, these patients' needs are provided in less than a few days.
