Iran International Innovation District to host multi-discipline drone competitions blending flight skills, programming, and engineering challenges.
IIID to Stage High-Tech Drone Battles and Air Shows
The Iran International Innovation District (IIID) will host an advanced series of drone competitions, combining precision piloting, mission simulations, aerial battles, and algorithm challenges — marking the first time such a diverse range of technical, programming, and flight skills are tested together in the country.
According to competition manager Mohammad Razavifard, the event features key categories such as demonstration flights using advanced simulators, real-world implementation of autonomous flight algorithms, and a high-adrenaline drone battle inside a flight cage, where ten small drones face off in head-to-head matches.
The year-long preparation process began with participants submitting videos of their skills for initial evaluation. Top teams then joined on-site training sessions and pilot workshops to gear up for the main event, which will see five finalists in the demonstration category and several specialized algorithm and operational teams compete in the finals.
While international interest was strong, logistical and equipment transport limitations prevented wider participation. However, a team from Tajikistan has confirmed attendance. Alongside the competitions, drone technology companies will showcase innovations in design, control systems, cargo delivery, and aerial surveillance. A dedicated section will engage students and enthusiasts with hands-on experiences.
Razavifard emphasized that the purpose of the event goes beyond competition, aiming to cultivate a vibrant innovation ecosystem for young talent and expand drone applications in industries such as agriculture, security, and smart transportation. He noted that drones will play a crucial role in shaping the future of both the skies and the ground — and that Iran intends to be a key player in that future.
